The building that accomodates the Jonathan today used to be an old farmhouse known as the “Spielerhof“ (gambling farm) from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. Back then it housed a tavern where men from the surrounding villages liked to meet to pursue rather unusual, or even - by Christian standards - frowned upon habits like card-playing and copious drinking, rather than going to church.
